Simon Cyrene Carries Cross Why Does Jesus Fall Againqsimon of Cyrene Story

The Stations of Cross (or Fashion of the Cross) is a serial of fourteen artistic images that draw the Passion of the Christ and His crucifixion. Many Catholics and others utilise these images to pray and reverberate on the final hours (or Passion) of Jesus Christ. It originally began as a Roman Cosmic devotion and is commonly done during the season of Lent, and specially on Practiced Friday.

The traditional 14 Stations of the Cross are: (i) Jesus is condemned to expiry, (ii) Jesus accepts the cross, (iii) Jesus falls the first time, (4) Jesus meets His Mother, (5) Simon of Cyrene carries the cross, (6) Veronica wipes the face up of Jesus, (7) Jesus falls the 2d time, (8) Jesus meets the women of Jerusalem, (9) Jesus falls the third time, (10) Jesus is stripped of His garments, (11) Crucifixion: Jesus is nailed to the cantankerous, (12) Jesus dies on the cantankerous, (13) Jesus' body is removed from the cross and (14) Jesus is laid in the tomb and covered in incense.

However, of these 14 traditional Stations of the Cantankerous, only 8 are explicitly mentioned in the gospels. Thus, in 1991, Pope John Paul 2 introduced a new form of devotions, called the Scriptural Manner of the Cross, that are grounded in scripture.

Below are the 14 devotions that contain the Scriptural Stations of the Cross:

1. Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane

Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples, "Sit down here while I become over there and pray." He took along Peter and the ii sons of Zebedee, and began to feel sorrow and distress. Then he said to them, "My soul is sorrowful even to death. Remain here and proceed spotter with me." He advanced a little and fell prostrate in prayer, saying, "My Begetter, if it is possible, permit this cup pass from me; yet, not as I volition, merely as y'all will." When he returned to his disciples he found them asleep. He said to Peter, "So you could not keep sentry with me for one hour? Lookout man and pray that you may not undergo the test. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak." (Matthew 26:36-41)

2. Jesus is Betrayed by Judas and Arrested

While Jesus was however speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, arrived, accompanied by a crowd with swords and clubs, who had come from the master priests, the scribes, and the elders. His betrayer had arranged a betoken with them, saying, "the man I shall kiss is the ane; arrest him and lead him away deeply." He came and immediately went over to him and said, "Rabbi." And he kissed him. At this they laid hands on him and arrested him. (Marking 14: 43-46)

3. Jesus is Condemned by the Sanhedrin

When day came the council of elders of the people met, both chief priests and scribes, and they brought him before their Sanhedrin. They said, "If you are the Messiah, tell united states," but he replied to them, "If I tell y'all, you will non believe, and if I question, y'all will not respond. But from this fourth dimension on the Son of Man will be seated at the correct mitt of the ability of God." They all asked, "Are you then the Son of God?" He replied to them, "You say that I am." Once more Pilate questioned him, "Accept you no answer? See how many things they charge you of." Jesus gave him no further answer, and so that Pilate was amazed.... Pilate, wishing to satisfy the crowd, released Barabbas and handed Jesus over to be crucified. (Mark 15: one-5, fifteen)

6. Jesus is Scourged at the Pillar and Crowned with Thorns

And so Pilate took Jesus and had him scourged. And the soldiers wove a crown out of thorns and placed it on his head, and clothed him in a purple cloak, and they came to him and said,"Hail, King of the Jews!" And they struck him repeatedly. (John 19: one-3)

7. Jesus Bears the Cantankerous

When the chief priests and the guards saw [Jesus] they cried out, "Excruciate him, excruciate him!" Pilate said to them, "Take him yourselves and crucify him. I find no guilt in him." ... They cried out, "Take him away, take him away! Crucify him!" Pilate said to them, "Shall I crucify your king?" The principal priests answered, "Nosotros take no rex but Caesar." Then he handed him over to them to be crucified. And then they took Jesus, and conveying the cross himself he went out to what is called the Identify of the Skull, in Hebrew, Golgotha. (John 19: half-dozen, 15-17)

8. Jesus is Helped by Simon the Cyrenian to Comport the Cross

9. Jesus Meets the Women of Jerusalem

(Luke 23: 27-31)

10. Jesus is Crucified

12. Jesus Speaks to His Mother and the Dearest Disciple

14. Jesus is Placed in the Tomb

When it was evening, there came a rich human being from Arimathea named Joseph, who was himself a disciple of Jesus. He went to Pilate and asked for the trunk of Jesus; then Pilate ordered it to be handed over.
